Flathead County Shows Strong Growth in 2015

According to a new article by the Flathead Beacon, 2015 distinguished itself as a year to remember. For Kalispell, strong growth in population and development continued, with the latter reaching its highest level since 2007. Indeed, not only the city but also the entirety of Flathead County had an extremely positive year for development and real estate. Perhaps Kalispell planning director Tom Jentz says it best with the simple statement "We continue to grow at a healthy rate." In fact, a recent report from his office reveals that the total value of construction in 2015 was $64 million, the most since 2007 and 40% more than the previous year. Overall, the city added 106,153 square feet of new commercial construction in 2015.

However, growth was not limited to the material; population growth in Kalispell is and has been a major key to its success in recent years. Between 2010 and 2014, the city saw the second highest rate of population growth (8%) among Montana's large cities, trailing only Bozeman (11.7%). Luckily, the city's largest multi-family development since 2004, a 96-unit apartment complex, is under construction near the Kidsports Complex.

In the county as a whole, the housing market showed marked improvement from 2014 to 2015, with the number of new residential units built increasing 32% from year to year. At the same time, the number of homes sold rose 11%, making it the best year for home sales in Flathead County since 2006. Not wanting to be left out of the fun, median prices also increased in 2015, rising 5.4% to $242,500.

All in all, 2015 certainly seems to have been a year of positives for the area. With rising home sales, prices, population, and commercial development, Flathead County is well-positioned to continue growing in 2016 and beyond!
